Bil
Keating (Producer/Director)
Bil began his television career as a drama director with the BBC,
where he enjoyed four successful years prior to returning to Ireland
to take up an appointment with RTE.
Fully supported by a large number of teenage viewers he caused a
near sensation with his innovative pop show ‘Like Now’
and was awarded the coveted Jacobs Award for his efforts. Twelve
further awards were to follow during which time he was to direct
many original top rating musical shows and some old favourites such
as ‘The Late Late Show’. He devised RTE’s first
successful home produced quiz programme, ‘Murphy’s Micro-quism’
which ran for seven years and this was followed by the equally successful
‘Where In The World’. He pioneered the televising of
‘Tops of the Town’ and brought laser light and holography
to the Irish screens for the first time. He has worked with all
of the big names in Ireland and is credited with giving a ‘first
break’ to such international stars as U2 and David Bowie whom
he knew from his days at the BBC.
More recently he went freelance to enable him to work for other
companies and his work has been seen on TG4 and TV3 while retaining
a contract with The National Lottery for such programmes as ‘Winning
Streak’ and ‘Fame & Fortune’. He enjoys his
work immensely and is dedicated to upholding a high standard of
television production. He became alarmed at a sudden drop in the
quality of programming and with this in mind he founded 'The Bil
Keating Centre' in an effort to offer the student an opportunity
to gain first hand knowledge of the industry not just from text
books but from working professionals engaged in the day to day business
of making and creating television programmes.
