The Television industry has always been a competitive one and in years gone by it was considered ‘a closed shop’. Indeed, common consensus was that you needed to know somebody to have any chance of landing a job in the business. But things have been changing in the past few years, a ten-fold increase in television production companies and the advent of digital television has undoubtedly provided opportunities that simply weren’t there before.

The Bil Keating Centre provides comprehensive training and practical experience in all aspects of Television with an emphasis on Presentation, Production and Direction. The training is conducted by industry professionals and there is an emphasis on practical work throughout as the course takes place in a studio environment. There are designated practical sessions, devoted to familiarising the student with the studio environment.

You will learn about the personnel involved in a typical production and get the opportunity to work in various areas in the process. From presenting to directing and camera work to floor management, you will be making your own programmes enabling you to gain invaluable experience. You will also specialise in a role of your choice e.g. presenting or directing.

Although our training programmes are industry run, previous experience in television is not a requirement for application, we feel that this shouldn’t be a disadvantage to anyone seeking a career in the business. Our record is proof that it is possible to succeed. Television is not an academic business, your creativity and determination along with some formal training can set you on the right track to a successful career.
